The speed sensor should be rigidly mounted with an air gap between 1.0 & 2.0 mm from the trigger wheel. The trigger wheel requires equi-distant square section teeth. The minimum tooth size should be at least 5mm square with a minimum height of 5mm. Maximum tooth length should not exceed the gap between teeth. The maximum number of teeth must not exceed 8 for 12000 RPM operation. More teeth can be used for lower speed operation eg. 16 for 6000 RPM operation. A divider module is available for applications with a greater number of teeth. This module connects between the sensor and the loom.
The vehicle needs to be run to test the operation of the speed sensor using either the Test Sensor function of MSELog or by logging a run and downloading the data if it is not possible to run the vehicle in the workshop.
It is not necessary to select the type of sensor for speed inputs. This sensor may be configured as either a Road Speed or an Engine Revs sensor. The number of pulses per rev (and tyre size and differential ratio for Road Speed) needs to be specified to get the correct results. It is recommended that the point be configured for Zero decimal places, with a minimum sample rate of 5 samples per second.

The speed sensor should be rigidly mounted with an air gap between 0.8 & 1.0 mm from the trigger wheel. The trigger wheel requires equi-distant square section teeth. The minimum tooth size should be at least 5mm square with a minimum height of 5mm. Maximum tooth length should not exceed the gap between teeth. There are no restrictions on tooth width or height. The spark sensor may either be fitted over a high tension lead or over a primary lead to an ignition coil. If fitted to the high tension lead ensure it is positioned at least 50mm from the lead terminator in order to prevent the spark tracking to the sensor.
